Which reminds me that Kevin Sorbo tried pushing for the Jan 6 insurrection and after it failed, he deleted the posts and said it was an Antifa plot to frame Donald Trump.

He should be but the 14th Amendment keeps him out only if he previously took an oath to the Constitution. You can go all out full shooting war against the federal government but as long as you weren’t already elected or appointed or whatever, you’re still eligible.

Reminder that just because somebody runs as something doesn’t mean that they are that thing. I can guarantee you that dipshit has no idea what the non-aggression principle is.

Furthermore, libertarianism is not a left right spectrum ideology. There are left libertarians. There are centrist libertarians, and there are right libertarians.

For reference, authoritarianism also bounds the spectrums of left to right.

Left to right is economic theory authoritarian to libertarian is social theory. They are two separate axises.

In my opinion, the shaman dude is definitely somewhere on the right side of the chart in the authoritarian section.

        Sincerely, a. Centrist and minarchist.

In theory, maybe. In practice, though, if an American claims to be a libertarian, in my experience they’re more than likely either a republican that knows they can’t get laid while calling themselves a republican, or a republican that likes weed(or both)

But your personal frame of reference is not the definition. Clearly, this shaman person is a Republican pretending to be a libertarian. So call them out on the bullshit instead of allowing them to hide under a banner of a party that is not theirs with ideals that they do not represent.

I never said it was the definition, but the definition is besides the point as far as I am concerned; I’m not a libertarian, so I frankly don’t care what libertarians “actually” believe, I don’t care if the word is being “co-opted” or whatever.

What matters to me is that the vast, VAST majority of people I meet and know of that claim to be libertarian are awful people; so yes, my initial assumption when someone claims to be a libertarian, until proven otherwise, is they’re not a good person.

While I understand your position, I would have to completely disagree with it on principle. If you sub in any word besides libertarian, you’ll see what I mean. In my opinion, you should care for accurate definitions in order for us to all maintain a common understanding and a productive straightforward discourse.

“What matters to me is that the vast, VAST majority of people I meet and know of that claim to be French are awful people; so yes, my initial assumption when someone claims to be a French, until proven otherwise, is they’re not a good person.”

                /S

Then to continue the example let’s pretend every French person you have ever met is actually from Paris and not any other part of the country.

If all previous experiences are negative and the actual definition seems outlandish, that’s a valid opinion. It’s not your fault if you never learned of non-negative examples.
The only question is how to apply this bias. The harm in assuming libertarians as Republican doesn’t seem critical to me. I haven’t made any other experiences so maybe I’m just as biased.
But maybe you’re simply the only one living your non-right interpretation/definition of libertarianism. I’d have to hear your point of views to actually believe it.

*I’ve read some things about ‘true’ libertarianism in the past but couldn’t find any community living it. It’s like all those guys on hexbear preaching to be the most loving people while spewing hate and fascist opinions wherever they can.
Most of the Republicans seem to be so far right that those few moderate-right Republicans would have to distance themselves clearly to actually represent their position. If you distance yourself from all those “LINOS” (do I have to give Trump credit for this?) that others and me see everywhere, then you might be rather alone, I’d wager.

Big problem with your example, you don’t choose to be French, you either are or you are not. You can be french and be an asshole, but the only choice there is in being an asshole. Being a libertarian on the otherhand, is a political position and is inherently something you have to choose to be.

Consider this: Prior to the Nazis using it, in western usage the Swastika was widely considered a symbol of good luck. The West boiling centuries of Eastern religious and cultural history of the symbol down into superstitious BS aside, by all accounts, at the time that would be an “accurate definition” of what the Swastika meant in the west. But obviously nobody today is going to believe you* when you say your Swastika tattoo is a good luck charm and you’re “totally” not a Nazi. Hell, you’d be in potential legal trouble in Germany for it. Point is, all words(& symbols) are made up, and meanings can and will change.

But they didn’t do that, and when people called for back up they were told “Lol no”

Yet if people try to peacefully protest against cops killing black people they get demonized and assaulted

They walked through the building, stole a lectern, and the US government wasn’t overthrown. But if they’d been mowed down by the National Guard? Fuck me, if you didn’t immediately have a literal civil war on your hands I’d be amazed.

The govt has used the military to kill US citizens many times before.

Plus the simple presence of military forces pointing live round machine guns at you is a really good deterrent for a pathetically organized and lightly armed insurrection.

Literally would’ve stopped the whole thing before it even began just by having the soldiers there in the first place.

Like how they show up when it’s an actual peaceful protest because it’s disrupting the lives of daily people. Riot squads lined up ready to crack skulls because people are marching.

But no you’re right the best thing to do in a coup is just pray the few people they had on station were enough.

The lack of military force was completely intentional. Which is why every single govt official who knew about the attack, had the power to, yet did nothing to fortify the capitol should all be tried for treason.

The fact the insurrectionists looked like a bunch of tourists was because of a complete lack of coordination. They looked like bumbling idiots because that’s exactly what they were.

              Their plan was literally

              1. Storm capitol

Yeah, and not just attack the congress arbitrarily, but attack the congress on the exact day they’re making a transfer of power official. In those circumstances I would’ve imagined that 90% of those people get caught by FBI week prior to the actual event, and the 10% remaining people killed as you describe.

And they weren’t even being a little bit clandestine about it. They were explicitly declaring what they were about to do and then did it.

Perhaps this is yet another example of the magnitude of how the government is incompetent. They cannot even protect themselves.

They worship a lying, treasonous rapist as the highest moral value.

A crazed woman with a knife trying to break into our nation’s capital is considered a true patriot.

This goes far beyond ‘personal opinion’, the right wing is a detriment to our Democracy and need to be treated as such.

    • 8 trillion + dollars added to the US debt in a single term
    • 9 trump lawyers sanctioned by federal judge for lying in frivolous election fraud lawsuits and ordered to pay defendant’s legal fees
    • 10 years that trump paid $0 in income taxes between 2000 and 2015. ($0 to cops, teachers, roads, prisons, disaster relief, etc)
    • 11 trump associates charged with serious crimes over the past 5 years
    • 12 million votes (the big lie) - trump claims he won the 2020 election by 12 million votes when in reality, he lost by about 7 million votes.
    • 13 of August, 2021 - one of multiple days that trump was supposed to magically become president again according to Qanon and a crack addicted pillow salesman (the two most respected information sources in the gop)
    • 14 year old girl in a youth choir that trump approached in 1992 to say, “Wow! Just think - in a couple years I’ll be dating you.”
    • 15 originally confirmed cases of COVID in the US trump said would soon be, “down to close to zero.” followed by, “like a miracle, it will disappear.” - over 1,000,000 Americans have since died of COVID and it continues to kill 4 years later.
    • 16 years old - age of daughter ivanka when she hosted “miss teen” pageant and, according to long time trump associate Noel Casler, “trump called her over in the middle of a rehearsal and had her give him a lap dance while he leered at the crew.”
    • 17 known trump and russia investigations from local, state and federal prosecutors
    • 18 gop senators that ignored trump threats / warnings and supported Biden admin’s infrastructure bill.
    • 19 as in COVID19 - trump was verified as the single largest source of disinformation on the virus, with a Cornell study claiming that 38% of the “misinformation conversation” originated with trump
    • 20 the day in January, 2021, when Biden was sworn in despite trump inciting a violent insurrection to stop election verification at the US Capitol.
    • 21 gun salute that trump ordered for himself when he left office after a humiliating defeat, even though he never served in the military, famously called military members “losers” and “suckers” and actively avoided the draft with a cowardly “bone spurs” excuse.
    • 22 date in August, 2021, when Alabama hate rally crowd booed trump for finally saying people should get vaccinated, only after 700,000 Americans have died due mostly to his failure as president
    • 23 as in wrestlemania 23 in 2007 where trump, a cartoon level failure with no other prospects, participated in a fake bet that a proxy wrestler would win a fake fight on his behalf or he would shave his wig and hair plugs off.
    • 24 day in August, 2021, when trump actually filed a lawsuit in Florida court against YouTube, a private company, demanding that they reinstate his YouTube channel like a desperate, irrelevant embarrassment with no platforms left to abuse.

Sometimes I wonder if I was watching a different set of events than everyone else that day.

I saw a bunch of people walking through the building like a crowded walking tour. I saw people holding posters and chanting outside. The news anchors were making jokes super lighthearted. I think this was CNN btw.

Then I went to work the next day and people were all freaking out, and everyone had the same term for it: “insurrection.” None of us had heard that term before. I would have called it a protest, or a riot.

    A mostly peaceful protest.

Burning down city centers, looting from small businesses. Murdering people indiscriminately. It’s strange what the online community has fixated on.

So you acknowledge there was a conflict inside the capital on J6 from people that came there to support Trump?

How did the post move? I’m saying Jan 6 looked like a peaceful protest, from what I saw on the news.

And definitely much more peaceful than the other protests that occurred around that time (BLM, South Africa riots).

I just don’t understand the vitriol around one vs the other. My point was around perception of an event through the lens of the news. I wasn’t there in person; none of us were.

Everyone is fixated on Jan 6 and not talking about the bigger picture - people were generally mad all around, for lots of different reasons, and all demonstrated publicly. Some were violent, some were not.

But from what I SAW ON THE NEWS, the response to Jan 6 seems disproportionate compared to the others.

What I said in the beginning was serious: I wonder if there was legitimately differring coverage of these events. If there are A/B versions of these big events.

Violent gun nuts brought no guns to over throw the government. That’s enough for me to know the narrative is not reality.

But there’s got to be a reason why Trump wanted to get rid of metal detectors at only this event and never one before it, right?

        Right?

Guns would make the whole thing not work. If they started shooting the whole thing would be over. That would stop the plan. It would force the Congress people to go against trump. They would have no choice.

Yes it was different coverage. I saw dozens of people beating police and breaking open windows, doors, barricades, while chanting hang mike pence and similar slogans, all live in 1080p

Funny isn’t it. The further we get from the event, the more extreme it gets. Somebody on here a few days ago called it “the worst act of treason in history”.
