I won’t shit on your taste except to note that I completely dont understand why so many people like taylor swift… but I’d have high hopes for the khruangbin, I’ve been hearing some on the radio and liking it, and theres at least some very catchy tracks from vampire weekend, if not amazing IMO, but I haven’t listened to the album through or anything.

Bunch of vapid pop music from the looks of it.

Which if that’s what you’re into then you’re in for a hell of a ride so good on ya

Jacob Collier - Djesse vol 4 (not for everyone but it’s exactly my shit)
Lucy Rose - This ain’t the way you go out
Catpack - both their singles are killer and their debut album comes out in June.
Cory Wong - The Lucky One (vinyl came out 2024 still counts even tho released late 2023)
Milton + Esperanza is prolly gonna be my album of the year, comes out soon and the first single is called “Outubro” out now.
Magdalini - For Spring (pretty good, world music with great harmony and rhythms)
Lawrence - Family Business (not out yet, check out their last album Hotel TV though.
Feel Better, Pt. 3 - Abbi Berry

I seen the tour of the new album and its incredible! This one is a lot more uptempo, funk, and dancey. Way way different then his past stuff.

Vultures is dog shit. Kanye fell off so hard.

MGMT album is great, probably my favorite on there.

Mary Boone from the vampire weekend song is really good, not crazy about the rest of the album though.

Justice was good, but only listened to it once.

I haven’t listened to that many 2024 albums, but I like a bunch:

Stereopolina - Песни для хорошего настроения (synthpop)

Judas Priest - Invincible Shield (heavy metal)

Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She (atmospheric industrial)

Allie X - Girl with No Face (synthpop - great production)

Rampen (apm: Alien Pop Music) is probably good too, since it’s by Einstürzende Neubauten. I haven’t had the occasion to listen to the whole thing yet though.

I got this list by searching a torrent tracker for albums released this year, and sorting by most snatched. Most of these artists, I haven’t listened to a full album of theirs before. So this list isn’t representative of my usual taste in music. I do listen to Squarepusher, Justice, and Kamasi Washington though, and I liked Green Day’s and Pearl Jam’s 90s stuff. I’m listening to Billie Eilish’s new album now and I’m liking it.

No idea why these other posters felt the need to shit on your selection, sure half of it is pretty mainstream pop music but the rest of it is a fair mix of electronica and indie and the likes (maybe those other posters just don’t recognize any names other than the mainstream pop artists and feel the need to compensate by being dicks)

but is it the same group of folks that have loved her the whole time or is it just every new 13 - 15 year old cohort? maybe a mix of both but from what i’ve heard of her songs I can’t imagine too many people in their 20s and 30s really want to hear songs about breaking up with boys

While 45 per cent of Swift’s US fans are millennials — like the 34-year-old herself — 21 per cent are Gen X and 25 per cent are Boomers, according to a 2023 survey. That means nearly half of her millions of fans are likely over 45.

So according to some dodgy survey, 91 percent of Swift fans are 27 and older

          I don’t understand it either

maybe that survey only looked at gen z’s over 18, but at my high school (graduated a couple years ago) taylor was considered “basic white girl music” and some girls would be teased at for listening to her. there’s definintely some swifties at my college but the majority really aren’t or hate on her, so i’ve always figured millennials liked her more

the thing about gen z is one of the most uncool things you can be is too “basic.” when something becomes too popular, it’s no longer cool or at least as cool. most people still mainly listen to popular/fairly popular artists, but there’s a line you cross where you’ll get called “NPC” or “tiktokified” or some shit, and having tastes seen as more “unique” (genuine or not, it’s often just following internet microtrends like listening to Duster or something) makes you “cooler”

i was at a party a few weeks ago and someone played See You Again by Tyler the Creator and some people started clowning on him and saying he has “tiktok music taste” before playing Ken Carson lmao
