I mean, it seems pretty easy to do. That way we could diffrenciate between users much easier and help it feel more like a community.

You can put any pic you like. Doesn’t have to include any personal info.

      • I found it’s slightly less intuitive to add a pfp on Lemmy as compared to reddit. On reddit it’s literally on the front screen while in Lemmy you have to go into the settings.

It isn’t hard, but seeing that the average user here was previously a redditor, it’s still enough of a difference

I’m on a desktop browser and I just went to try to work out how to upload an avatar on reddit. I really struggled!

I found I could create a “snoovatar” easily enough. Found that option on both old reddit and new reddit.

I couldn’t find the option to upload a profile image at all on old reddit, and on new reddit I finally found it in the user settings, basically the same place as lemmy has it.

Did I miss something? Or were you referring to the “snoovatar” thing?

But then I’d have to pick something that doesn’t reveal anything about me, why should I make that effort?

I didn’t want one on Reddit and I don’t want one here. This is a forum not a social media to me, my only identity here is an anonymous name, I don’t want feel represented by a drawing, don’t want to be famous on here, and don’t want my image on here

I disabled them from the settings. Unnecessary clutter, names are enough to understand who you’re talking with

Because who cares? It’s the content that matters, not how the profile looks of the person who posted it.

I didn’t have one on reddit. I don’t see the need to have one here. As someone else already mentioned, I barely pay attention to usernames, let alone profile pics. I care about what you’re saying. Not what you or your profile look like.

Oh, ok. Yeah I completely get it.

Though I do just sometimes have those weird feelings, like with how so many people just look the same aside from the name, that I’m not really talking with other people. Yeah I know that’s very silly and unusual but it’s just kind of a weird feeling I have, like I’m speaking to a mass conglomerate or a bot instead of a normal, living person. I guess I just got so used to people having their own, detailed profile that someone not having it feel strange and unnatural, if that makes sense.

Most people from reddit were not using avatars. Sometimes people had one from the avatar maker.

No thank you! Genuinely, I’m here for content and to drop the occasional comment. I come from a time of irc and php. Customization was nice, but I’m not here for it these days.

Idk, as soon as my instance added them I got this cute one, it just helps differentiate between everyone and remember who’s who

While I have a pfp I also have it so I don’t see anyone’s pfp unless ik on their profile, and at that point it doesn’t matter. It just feels like clutter when I see It.

Maybe you should try a different profile pic? Sometimes photos online can be wacky like that. It could also be in a bad format. I usually download photos and save them on my desktop. Usually this way it let’s me set up profile pics.

Also, swag profile name. Terraria is the goat

It’s cool that you’ve got pronouns in your username, does blahaj.zone have the functionality to add them like a user flair like we have on hexbear or did you have to manually enter it into the username thing?

i manually put it myself. the instance here is considerably closer to upstream lemmy than what hexbear seems to be running

there were some talk of modifications here but one of the admins got into an accident and is afaik still recovering and dealing with more important stuff (moving to cheaper hosting for one)

honestly it’s a miracle this instance is as stable as it is given all the circumstances

Damn, o7 to your admins and mods for keeping the site running in that case, hope they’re able to modify it at some point

Ngl it’s kind of got me nostalgic to remember how shit hexbear used to run back in the day, way before Lemmy actually took off as a thing, like upvotes didn’t work, all posts and comments >3 months old were hidden, and in the even earlier days /pol/ and donald.win users used to ddos the site repeatedly and try to dox admins, also we had an ongoing feud with some random irrelevant radical TERF message board that tried to brigade hexbear and miserably failed after some important person in the Australian TERF movement started tweeting about hexbear doing anti-cis bigotry lmao
