I just think at some point in my life, there is going to be a wonderful comedic opportunity to crush an apple and I should learn how or train now. e: Anybody else have any ridiculous goals right now?

Dude there’s something wrong with your mind.

I was with you right up until you said avocado.

      Sicko.

You don’t frigging know the price of avocados these days?

But I also feel like there need to be a few fruits between the two. Avocados are pretty soft, their skin easily tears. Apples are crispy, the pressure needed to crush an apple in one hand is at least 10x greater than to crush an avocado.

I’m on a similar journey. I want to crush walnuts. I’m a desk worker, so I got a set of grip strength trainers and just use them when I’m in Zoom meetings. I can almost close a 200lb gripper after about 8 months of sustained effort. I’ve started using a light gripper to increase my thumb and pointer finger pinching strength now too. I’m going to have to see if I can squash an apple now.

A most laudable goal indeed friend!

I would like to suggest you incorporate the silicone grip rings.

I want to fold a frying pan. The idea came to mind when I got cocky when switching from curling 25 lbs to 45 lbs

Pretty much. The local dollar store would definitely know something is up when I’m buying packs of them.

You like literally have to buy 10 of them Just so you can roll one up after cooking for a friend and when they say what the fuck are you doing you say deadpan “what aren’t these disposable?” as you open the oven drawer to reveal 10 new pans with labels.

Husband and I have a standing bet to be the first person to do 10 handstand pushups on a stage. Not sure why the stage is involved, and I can’t remember what the prize is. Also it’s been over 5 years since we made it, and neither of us can do a single one yet. But I think of it often.

You should start training in secret immediately! Stages are easy enough to come by once you’re ready.

I was thinking training montage, with Eye of the Tiger and everything.

In all seriousness, picture your dude’s face! He will have forgotten all about that bet (he might have even now) and one regular sunny day you CASUALLY walk on over to that conveniently located stage; “hold that drink for me for a second, honey”, and BAM. He won’t know what’s even happening, crying into both of your milk shakes in joy and confusion.

Plus, you’ll be super buff. There’s no downside, really.

Okay so I actually crushed an apple before I posted this which is what inspired the post. I just wanted to inspire casual conversation, ridiculous goal setting, and joking around.

I was inspired by an American pro wrestler in the Midwest or Mid-South(?), I remember seeing him on TV when I was a kid in the late '70s and early '80s. His big gimmick to show his toughness was to crush an apple.

I crushed an Ambrosia apple that was slightly overripe. I do not believe, based on my strength in that endeavor, that I would be able to crush a ripe apple.

There was a guy on some British panel show (maybe WILTY?) who can rip an apple in half. I keep meaning to try that but I keep forgetting.

I didn’t know if this was possible so I looked for some videos.

This guy isn’t very big, but does it fairly easily with his fingertips, and can crush it with a full grip but it takes him some effort. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGCawR9vBXE&t=64

Three big guys here with full grips do pretty poorly, then the big guy turns it to pulp in a second. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eICtcsd0TvY&t=288

I think you’ve got your work cut out for you.

Ive always wanted to make a reality tv show where you take regular people who have always wanted to do something but through whatever reasons never had the chance. Like someone who has never surfed and training them until they can do proper “big wave” surfing. Or someone who has never sat on a horse and training them to ride in a rodeo.

          I think that’s such a clever idea, and it’s kind-spirited.

I have always wanted to know how to box. Not because I want to hit somebody, but something about all of the footwork, core and the fundamentals that are strongly developed seems compelling to me.

Some apples are softer than others.

When you do it please announce “how do you like Dem apples?”

Ridiculous goals, I don’t think my brain has the capacity for ridiculous right now. Trying to get 3k yards/hour swimming, and hoping to get back to doing flip turns before the 4th of July.

Maybe soften the apple by boiling it? Years ago I read the trick to ripping a phone book in half was to bake it in the oven
