FWIW the maga crowd is obviously down with being part of a cult of personality. It’s easy to stand in front of them, say edgy shit, and be showered with praise.

But why did he change? He was praised for Tesla for “saving the world” with electric cars. He had no reason from that perspective to change side.

The change of side and pandering to the extreme right is because he is showing his true colors now.

It’s hard to say what makes anyone do anything, so this is all my opinion.

But I think I’m 2015-2017 we were very optimistic about Tesla and the future of tech, so there was a lot of hype. After Tesla cars came out and we’re fine, but self driving never really landed fully, he stopped getting so much praise from technophiles.

Then he probably had a meeting with trump bc big biz loves meeting with govt officials and realized that the maga crowd is really easy to extract praise and admiration from, so he leaned into that.

Musk has always been very focused on attention even back in the x.com days.
