I like to tell IT newbies in their first year apprentice that sudo rm -fr /
removes the french language from the root, since in Swiss Windows, french comes as second keyboard layout and sometimes you accidentally switch and nobody likes it.
Somethimes their first linux is a VM, lucky them, but not always:)
RIP to people who never shutdown or restart their PCs
there aren’t.
& most people don’t even know what/ who C418 is…
as a young IT with friends who dont know much about IT i have to say that most around 20 use reddit, instagram, … cause its the only thing they know. everyone they know uses them and many of them want likes, …
if they would join the fediverse:
=> give it a few more years and get your friends, family & collegues on here and see the fediverse grow
less really is more with more features. and more IS less with less features
did you know there is a vim tutor for learning how to vim?
You can’t really prevent a brute force attack. Even if you prevent it from one IP or so, you can still do “distributed” brute force attacks.
Also only allowing one password per 5 seconds or so per IP will not work if you have lots of users and they are at work and have the same IP.
Im aware of that, thanks. Its just that all my friends & collegues still use Instagram. And if I quit there I dont have any contact over internet at all with them except for a few.
I also have a PixelFed account but dont really use it.
I dont like Instagram at all, just all my friends are over there. And I hope some of them join here soon.
Yeah… todays social media is more a commercial ad platform than social media.
the fediverse is the new ‘futuristic’ social media since its main goal is to connect people and make social media more social
Glad you like it!
no, since it first checks if the password is correct. if it is, display error message. if it is corrent and the second time, accept the password (code not in screenshot) but if the password is wrong, it doesnt check if it is the first attempt.
i will never hear “alpha male” the same from now on.
but you are right!😂
Great idea for when you start in IT! Always had trouble first year in my apprenticeship when i had accidentally opened vim. Ask for first time and after 2 months not used.
Did someone already open a pull request?
I use Hostinger VPS KVM 2 for personal uses. 8GB 2vCPU, 100GB SSD. 1 Snapshot & weekly Backups.
+ Many options for OS/ Management and great support!
If you want to self-host services, check out Yunohost. There you can install many different services like Vaultwarden as a password manager, Nextcloud for files, Blogging platforms, Mail services, … You could use a Raspberry Pi as a server like i do. Otherwise, you could also use an old dekstop PC or some free VPS Best you can do with the domain is registering at cloudflare; there you have a lot of options to manage your domain.

for images, i use squoosh.app. it is a webapplication and not a desktop app. it can compress, convert & resize various image types. it is opensource and running offline (locally on your computer). github
