House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., have been calling state legislators about the map, which could affect control of Congress.

“Fine you don’t get to participate in the next election” seems like an appropriate response?

Naw, maybe not. But then that’s the kinda shot we go for here.

The historical precedent is “fine we’ll run your election then and we’ll have armed troops protecting it”. It’s literally Biden’s job to enforce this

This seems like the kind of thing where the justice department could be exerting pressure and building a federal case. I’d be interested to see what kinds of emails are flying around behind the scenes.

In a fair and just world, the leader of the body would be put into prison until the Court’s decision was applied. Each new leader would come to this fate until the situation was rectified to the ruling’s satisfaction. Essentially, it’s a contempt of court condition, and the person in charge is responsible for satisfying the order. That’s why they’re in charge, and why they (at least in most cases) get paid more.

We seem to have forgotten that actions should have consequences other than trivial fiscal or paper declaration penalties.

The Supreme Court gave AL a one week deadline to draw a new map or they would draw it for them.

Alabama is choosing to let that happen in order to save face with their POS base.

By the next election, there will be a 2nd black district. There is no way around it.

Seeing this, wouldn’t anyone, who isn’t part of the hard core of the POS base, get really PO’d and motivated to do all the poll work etc to push the GOPers out? This isn’t a long term strategy, and it’s coming from a minority of eligible voters. So wouldn’t they likely lose in the long run? Not flexible enough to keep with the changing times; they make themselves irrelevant. SMH

Imagine packing the court with conservative stooges, doing something SO unconstitutional that those stooges tell you to stop, then defying the orders of your lopsided Supreme Court, that you built yourself.

So what happens when people in government don’t follow court orders? Do they just get sued again?

If it’s anything like Ohio in 2022, they just ignore the court order to redraw it and there’s no recourse.

      They are politicians, nothing happens.
We’ve had politicians coordinate openly in public with armed insurrections, no response.
We’ve had politicians trafficking humans, no response.

When Alabama refused to desegregate it’s schools after a supreme court order Eisenhower sent the national guard to do it. The job of the executive branch is to carry out laws and rulings

Alluding to Tuberville’s past as the football coach at Auburn University, spokesman Steven Stafford said in an email: “Coach just wants the maps to be fair and for all Alabamians to be represented well. He trusts Alabama’s state legislators to get this right.”

Does it seem weird to anyone else that the dude is an actual US Senator, and his staff still refer to him as “Coach”?

    Alabama is currently “fucking around”.

The “finding out” stage is having your electoral maps redrawn by lawyers in D.C. & enforced at gunpoint.

The federal government needs to go in and force the legislature to uphold its obligation the the rest of these United States. As Tom cotton once said: “send in the troops”
