I want to use NixOS for better directories, but I’m worried something won’t work. You’ve mentioned Flatpak. Does using flatpak on nixos not mean you have to use the more common Linux directory style?

Disclaimer: I’m an ally and in no way mean to speak for trans comrades. I’m just vibing with transfems and hope I may mrrp in allyship.

god I’m not brave enough to try flatpak on nixos. trying to make appimages work scared me off of the "universal " formats. I just beat my head into the wall learning how to write nix packages.

I’m not brave to try NixOS yet. But I won’t lie, I hate the directory system on most Linux distros. I kinda hope NixOS might be the future for most users.

nixos is a good investment when you know exactly what you like and just want to reproduce it on every machine you touch. the ability to rollback and stuff are just nice perks - they’re not gonna get you over the admittedly steep learning curve of the packaging system.

I want to game on Steam, I need OBS and Firefox. I also use LibreOffice and GIMP. Oh and I use Wayland and don’t like non-rolling release distros. I don’t think my needs can be met on NixOS atm. :(
