My wife and I are absolutely noping out should our antiquated electoral college elect Trump again. We’ve spent the last several years preparing for this contingency.

Last time we were in the EU, a border patrol officer in the Netherlands took me by surprise with a non-sequitur, saying something to the effect of, “I want you to know your rights…”

I’m like oh god, and then he smiles, saying, “You can actually move with your wife [she’s an EU citizen], and live here or in any other EU member state indefinitely.”

Now, I already knew that, but it was a total wtf moment. In the US I would have expected any protracted interaction with a border patrol agent to result in being screamed at, detained, and fisted without lube for an innocuous perceived microaggression. I’m not sure if the NL guy was just being friendly, or if announcing stuff like that is some kind of policy to subtly poach people. Maybe both.

That’s really awesome of him! I don’t care whether it was being friendly or officially announcing it. Either way, that’s amazing!
