Sheriff Sander and his merry band are many times basically donating their bodies for Thurston county. I don’t deny that.
But I do not want a police force that is indistinguishable from a military coup in waiting.
And I struggle with his belief that law enforcement is somehow an aristocratic version of the rest of us. If that was true the last sheriff would still have his job. Fallacy after fallacy to remain forceful and powerful is wrong and amoral.
And his hot take on “criminals have no protection under the law” is exactly the opposite of what the law is.
In my opinion what Sheriff Sanders means is that “no one has protection under Sheriff Sanders unless Sheriff Sanders let’s them have protection.”
Because, in my opinion, Sanders believes he is the law.
