  • I am guessing it is a pun based on my limited knowledge of the language. I never knew before why the lily flower was synonymous with yuri relationships, but I just looked it up and it’s because the way you pronounce the kanji for the lily flower (百合) is yuri (ゆり) and the lily was traditionally associated with women’s purity in Japan. Then, in the 70’s, it was used to describe lesbian readers of a BL magazine by the editor and it kind of took off from there.

The title is written as リリィ which is “riri” (or lily) but written a little weirdly with the small ィ at the end. I don’t know enough about the nuances of katakana to know the significance there. I am guessing that the Lily part of the title is literally correct, but that the target audience is supposed to get the second meaning implying yuri.

Then again, I am not a native Japanese speaker…so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • We are only 22 chapters into this series and the way these two have grown closer together has felt so extremely natural. So many other series could take note that you don’t need grand gestures or contrived situations in order to have two people fall in love with each other. It can be just as simple as walking home and spending time together.

    What a great series.

I am doing some updates to the bot. I just implemented a language option to help our colleagues from the Myanmar community in !aum@ani.social that are planning to run their own version of the bot. I am guessing that I will need to do some further updates here as I probably baked English into the bot in a lot of places they would like to change it. Let me know @w_tree@ani.social!

The next thing I have started working on is a way to create an organized list of all the shows that the bot is currently monitoring even if it isn’t making posts for them. This was a requested feature to provide a reference for people that might not know if a show is requestable from the bot or not. My current plan is to have this be a page on the wiki that is updated automatically and include a link to that page in the sidebar as well as in the post of recent threads. I think with some clever scripting I can make the wiki be auto-updated…but it is as yet unproven.

The milestone after that is to further tweak the way that shows/episodes are sorted in the pinned summary post of recent discussion threads. I had been kind of banging my head against a wall for a way to sort things nicer, but I had some ideas after taking a fresh look at the code after a break, so I hope that it won’t be too difficult.

As a sidenote, I set up a kanban organizer for myself to help keep track of all the lemmy/bot stuff I have going on (Vikunja specifically). So far, I have really liked it and expanded to use it for other things. The experimental Android app has worked flawlessly as well.

Tagging @zabadoh@ani.social since I had talked with you about some of this in past threads.

  • I felt like we could use a new version of this post as we are moving toward a new season and I am going to be making some updates to the bot. So, the comments about formats in the previous version of this post would be out of date.

Note: there are no changes to this post formatting compared to the previous one yet, but I am actively working on it.
