  • on one of my other accounts i am collecting communities that all have the same name across instances just so that whichever place people end up moving to for that is consistent with the others. having them all roll into one would be a massive amount less work and is pretty much absolutely ideal for what i’m trying to do.

there absolutely needs to be an opt-out or even an exclude feature tho. as someone pointed out, some instances are run by not very nice people ™ and there are also regional-based instances like my native one the aussie zone. yeh sure it’d be great if all the “australia” communities were merged (or most of them at least) but 2nd or 3rd for size is the melbourne community, and there’s also a melbourne in florida and people from neither one particularly enjoy being mistaken for the other. region-based communities need to be able to maintain their own exclusivity for community reasons, yeah? another community on the aussie zone is called “gigs” and it’s not about rock concerts that happen in new york city if you get my drift. you have a great idea, but it needs to be optional, and easy to withdraw from if desired.

  • there’s people saying that you should try kbin. i dunno, i mean, check it out and see if that’s what you want. personally i’m not sure and think you might actually like doing it in a community in one of these instances instead.

the layout at kbin is more compact horozontally. the layout here has what would be single entries flanked by their own little comment section, arranged relatively neatly and easy to navigate. with a kbin UI i’d feel a bit annoyed about having to scroll 3/4th of a screen just to get to the next entry. i wouldn’t like it, but then again i’m old and am due to start yelling at kids who are at the other end of the street in their own yards to get off my lawn soon, so you can laugh and dismiss my thoughts however you want.

i’m just putting in a vote for doing your blog here. considering you’ll control what is allowed in the community it shouldn’t be too difficult

  • i’v got the same issue you have on both of my computers. on the other one i have a mouse and have to hit the middle button to open a link in a new tab, but this thing is a 2-in-1 touchscreen tablet PC and involves pressing my fat fingers onto the screen, potentially missing and fucking everything up, and then if i get the right spot i gotta hold my hand still for a few seconds so that the thing realises that i want to right-click, and then i can hit the appropriate command.

    rather annoying.
