I don’t want to overstate the need for comfort in all parts of life, especially at a time when we see how people are using their comfort in being a part of a white supremacist colonial project backed by the imperial core to justify the genocide of those deemed not human enough, BUT as trans people we do need to be comfortable enough to at least keep on living in this world (not to keep on living to be a white supremacist tho)

Being a visible trans person can be really intense and traumatising due to the cis-supremacist hegemony’s constant attempts to crush your spirit, make you fall in line and conform, so I don’t blame anyone for trying to conceal their transness when they’re out in public, especially if it’s something that helps them survive to see another day.

But I will add that being a visible trans person is POWERFUL. There’s a reason we get bullied, hatecrimed, legislated out of existence and that reason is that every trans person living their truth is putting a small clink in the armour of cis-supremacist hegemony. You living your life authentically gives permission to others to do the same & it really works.

On a more personal note, I fucking hate going outside & into public spaces. It’s fucking exhausting & can make my mental health spiral out of control depending on the level of hatecriming going on on any particular occasion, but I’ve had people tell me that I’ve encouraged them to come out themselves after just seeing me at some party, sitting in the corner and being too terrified to talk to anyone.

TL;DR: comfort isn’t something you’re owed, but you gotta do what you gotta do to keep going. You know yourself best & what kind of accomodations will help you live another day. On the other hand transness is powerful & if you have comfort to spare, you should absolutely be visible in front of cis people - that shit changes lives.
