yeah, no, gas masks were carried in ww2. some poor bastards (depending on unit) carried them all the way through the war. promask carriers were a choice bit of storage room if you decided to lose the mask, but early on lots of folks worried that it would be used on the battlefield again.

40 states currently have ‘pay to stay’ programs, but, my understanding is that they’re the minority of prisons even in those states, and generally the ones on the softer side of the spectrum. still very fucked up.

Athletics have been part of human culture. SPORTS, especially over-paid pro-sports, is a very new thing. No one was paying gladiators millions of dollars (equivalent) in the roman empire. They might earn their freedom, and I think in a tiny tiny amount of exceptional cases, citizenship. Sports is not all encompassing athletics. Sports is the orchestration of athletics to sell shit. It’s the cancer that takes a good thing and makes it repugnant.
