Damn. I tried getting into it as a child but it was too difficult for me. The constant clicking and micromanaging gave me stress :P.

I adore this series. I especially have very fond memories of the original. I did not play it on release (I was still a toddler then), but I got it through the Valve Bundle on Steam and played it through at least 5 times. I’ve had multiple times in my life were I didn’t have access to a powerful computer, but similar to DOOM, Half-Life will run on about anything. I remember one of my playtroughs being on a horrible windows 8 tablet, and still it looked and played amazingly :).

Half-Life 2 then just perfected an already strong original. There is something just so satisfying about the environmental design and linearity of the levels. You just push through and know that you will find enough in your surroundings to make it. I find it strange that there haven’t been that many clones since (first person exploration action games). Most games either are to linear (COD) or completely open world or become a full-on immersive sim.

If you have any recommendations, please share them. Dishonored gave me similar vibes, but I miss the simplicity of Half-Life.

I agreed with you up until your last paragraph: that is some serious exaggerating. Never did the original commenter say that the solution was to kill all Palestinians.

I don’t agree with their view that eradicating Hamas followed by a temporary occupation by Israël will magically help the Palestinian people, but reducing an opposing viewpoint to a literal Nazi isn’t going to help or convince anyone.

Maybe give it a go if you haven’t yet? I’m also not a fan of web apps and prefer native applications, but it runs really well and is super impressive!

Portable: my black Gameboy Advance SP, playing my original Gameboy games on it (Donkey Kong Country and pokemon Blue)

TV: this is gonna sound weird, but I absolutely love my PS5, it’s just so sleek and I love the controller haptics and finally having most games running at 60 fps. Again I mostly play older games on it, but a lot of them got PS5 updates like Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon, Spider Man, Days Gone…

I think they are in their right to give their opinion on something no? Telling someone that their kid is ugly is such a wrong comparison to make. You’re directly offending them as it is their child, plus talking about something that neither parent nor child can do anything about (their looks).

I love talking to people who despise stuff I adore, this can give very interesting conversations. It also broadens my perspective on things. I love Mass Effect and still found the original comment very interesting.

You’re not saying the other person is wrong to love it, you’re just saying that you yourself hate it. I think this is an important distinction to make? Especially on a discussion thread, it would be rather boring to only hear the same voice?

Did you buy the original games or the legendary edition? I played ME1 vanilla and enjoyed it a lot!

I’ve only played mass effect 1. I completed it around five years ago and absolutely loved it. I always have difficulty completing games, but for this one I read all the codex entries, completed all the quests I could find and really absorbed it all.

The opening is so memorable, it immediately gave me this epic sense of scale and importance and this lasted throughout the game.

I’m thinking of maybe playing it again as femshep and then continuing on with 2 and 3, although I’m not sure if it will match my original experience.

I really hope that this works out. I loved the original but I read the recent stories that the new Telltale isn’t doing very well and had a bunch of layoffs already. Still, fingers crossed, the original is one of my favorite games ever!

Yeah I never thought something could top my experience with journey. I’ve seen the comment “quasi religious” quite a lot in this comment section. If it applies to Journey, for me it applies even more to Outer Wilds. The gameplay, discovery, mystery, music are all perfect and the culmination of the story and it’s message absolutely blew me away. I’ve never seen a game depict my view on life and even spirituality as perfectly as Outer Wilds. During the final scene I felt so thoroughly moved, as if the game was releasing something from my very soul.

It was a weird realization that my all time favorite game might actually have changed, especially as I played Outer Wilds in a state of recovery from depression during which I never expected to be able to connect so strongly to something emotionally.

As I said in the post, this is my favorite game ever. I played it when I was a teenager and it completely blew me away. The start was interesting, but quickly I noticed it becoming more and more beautiful and moving. The moment when your sliding down and the camera turns sideways with the sun making the sand look gold is honestly one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in my life. I played in 3 sittings, really savoring every moment. When you’re walking slowly in the ice cold ending stretch I became really emotional and the feeling of catharsis when you start the actual final part was insane. I was silently crying the whole time during that section.

Love the multiplayer aspect also. And the music is insane. I saw it performed live in my city last year and was able to speak to Austin Wintory and get his autograph.

StS 1 was Java (libgdx). They started using unity for their unannounced sequel and then changed to Godot. So the original StS was never unity to begin with.

I do agree that it’s amazing to have such a big game use Godot.

I’ve played a bit of the original Resident Evil emulated on ps5. I really like the camp and the atmosphere, but it required a bit to much focus from me to proceed further in the game. I felt it became a bit difficult to know where to go and memorize the locations and puzzles.

I’ve bought Resident Evil HD on steam, so I’ll try it again soon in the remaster.

My co-op buddy and I also just started RE5. I know it was made in another time, but it’s quite hilarious how problematic a lot of it is. So we’re just laughing at all the obvious stereotypes and enjoying the gameplay. We first tried on hard but it became to frustrating very quickly, so we started again on normal difficulty.

I know this is a games community, but I still feel like I also need to mention the movies. I saw all of them recently with some friends.

Resident Evil -> average B movie, not that special

Resident Evil Apocalypse -> holy shit this is becoming cool and over the top

Resident Evil Extinction -> the absolute best over the top idiotic movie I’ve seen in my life, I love it so much

Resident Evil Afterlife -> really quite boring and a big step down from the masterpiece that was Extinction

Resident Evil Retribution -> cool action flick, but nothing tremendous really happens in this movie

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter -> beautifully stupid and ridiculous conclusion that desperately tries to invent some overarching plot <3

I remember playing this every day at the arcade. We were talking earlier about Tetris, but this was immersion on another level. I saw my life in those graphics and understood the universe. Sadly, after one month the machine must’ve broken down, because it was shipped away for repairs, never to return again…

This might be the earliest game that is linked to my existence, as my mother bought a Game Boy and played this while pregnant :). Later on I played the same cartridge on my first gaming console: a green Game Boy Color. I cannot fathom the amount of hours I’ve played this game in my life.

When going to University, I found my Game Boy Color in a closet. After swapping out the batteries I realized that it still worked perfectly and I played it throughout Uni, sometimes even during lectures. I remember all my friends being excited when I got close to breaking my personal record, it was a really fun time.

Of the recent versions I really liked Tetris Effect (even if only for the phenomenal trailer). Tetris 99 is also pretty cool, but I’m really bad at competitive tetris so I never even got close to winning.
