  • Codes in physical editions are one of the most useless goods in the world, purely offering something in physical stores which does not need to be bought there.

Some years ago (actually probably a decade or so), I fell for a game like that. My internet speed wasn’t great at that time, but the game was pretty large, so I wanted to buy it on disc. However, when I opened the box at home I saw that nothing was included except a code. It wasn’t fraud as it was clearly labeled on the box, but unsuspecting me didn’t even know codes in physical boxes would exist.

  • They aren’t exactly worth nothing. If you have too low karma (in a subreddit), your comments will be hidden etc. I uttered an unpopular opinion in a sub once, got downvoted to oblivion for it, and since then every single one of my comments is hidden. You always need to carefully judge how many unpopular opinions you can say in a subreddit until your karma falls below the threshold.

  • Such a stupid take:

    • We know way less about submarines, especially non-military ones, so that we can get way more info from finding the cause of the failure with submarines compared to normal boats, especially as refugee boats often are very obviously overcrowded.
    • There likely would be a way greater effort to save refugees if it didn’t mean them coming to Europe. Just from a monetary perspective, saving 300 refugees is probably more expensive than saving a handful of rich people in the long run.
    • Even though it’s dangerous, it seems way less dangerous than the titanic drive. Here, the failure rate was 1 in 4, and by far not that many refugee boats sink
