  • We gave our son children’s Benadryl to get him to sleep, but:

    He was five.

He couldn’t sleep because he broke his arm earlier that day and we had to wait until the next day to get a cast on it (so the swelling would go down). He just had a splint, so every time he moved, it hurt.

When we called the ER to ask what to do so he could sleep, they said anything they would do would require him to be admitted, so the best solution was to just give him a dose of children’s Benadryl.

He was our kid, not someone else’s kid entrusted to our care with the understanding that we wouldn’t drug him.

While discussing the imminent climate disaster with my elderly parents, they said they don’t care because they won’t live long enough to see it.

I asked, “What about your kids and grandkids?”

They asked, “Do you believe in God?”

    I said, “No.”

They said, “If you Believe in God, then you’ll get to go to Heaven when you die.”

I don’t believe in God, so I won’t be going to Heaven (which I also don’t believe in), but if I did believe in God and Heaven, and expected to go there, why the hell should I and my children have to live through a post-apocalyptic shitshow before we die?

For the record, from what the church they made me go to taught me about God and Heaven, they should probably not expect to make the cut either. The God I was taught about was pretty anti-fascist. Kind of a socialist really.

  • … state judges won’t finalize divorces during a pregnancy. Established in the 1970s, the rule was intended to make sure men were financially accountable for the children they fathered.

So, I’m assuming if you knock someone up in Missouri without being married, you don’t have to pay child support?

Are judges in Missouri just too damn stupid to include conceived but as yet unborn children in any child support requirements?

Or perhaps, it’s just about making sure men can continue to abuse their own “property”?
