That looks like an IBM PC. I recognize it from my childhood years when the father of a friend (who worked for IBM) had one in the early 80’s. That dude is probably as nerdy as he looks. So not a dumb terminal, it’s one of the first home computers.
Doing the same, except I’m doing it with a bunch of friends and we’re making a gaming convention out of it at a ski resort. EclipseCon 2024 running from Apr 6 to Apr 9. I’ve been planning this since 2020, when I first heard the eclipse was going to pass close by.

Stories like these are often about protecting the status quo, or at least protecting it from change involving harm and destruction. Refugees generally want to see the status quo changed because things suck for them. The more radical among the refugees will not be above using a bit of harm and destruction to get what they want. The ends justify the means and all that. I find it better to use the term “antagonist”. They are people that the protagonists have conflict with, but they aren’t necessarily bad people.
Some good ideas here, but if I did this with my group, I’d have to deal with them volunteering for the process.
