Yud is as if Woody Allen had grown up on a diet of Neal Stephenson novels
Basil Wolverton was great. His cartoons had a horrible viscerality about them.
John Gruber (yes, the Apple loyalist) pointed out that the Japanese law specifically exempts game consoles, and suggested the US retaliating by passing a law requiring third-party app stores on the PlayStation and Switch. Which probably won’t happen, but would be entertaining if it did.
The Satanic Temple come off as solid Democrats if not anarchocommunists or something. If it was a Satanic house of worship, it could possibly be the Church Of Satan (who, at least in Anton LaVey’s time, were dominance-oriented Ayn Rand assholes philosophically indistinguishable from today’s Republican Christianity), or if they’ve mellowed in their old age, the Order of Nine Angles (who, conveniently, are also neo-Nazis).
They could call it the Dendy 360 or something
In Europe, that’s July and/or August, depending on the country
What will happen to the Steam Deck? Will they discontinue it and support for existing units, or replace the OS with Windows (causing degraded performance and exposing their users to Microsoft adtech enshittification)? The Steam Deck is a star product of theirs, which hopefully will count for something.
They’d also need to build and certify rolling stock to the tunnel’s safety requirements, which are stringent, and one of the reasons why no other companies have offered services through the tunnel.
When the tunnel was built, they actually did plan sleeper train services between Scotland and Paris/Brussels, and commissioned compliant sleeper carriages. The service ended up never happening, and the carriages were sold to Canada.
I’ve only tried the ones going south (SJ to Malmö/Copenhagen and SJ and Snälltåget to Hamburg and Berlin) and have found them to be perfectly adequate. The rolling stock is old (ex-Deutsche Bahn) but refurbished, they’re mostly punctual (though running through Germany can compromise that) and offer a comfortable journey. SJ Stockholm to Berlin (leaving at around 17:30 and arriving before 9 the following day) is just about manageable, though once the Fehmarn Belt tunnel is complete, I imagine that will depart around 20:00 to arrive at the same time. Other than shortening the journey, my wishlist would be ÖBB NightJet-style single-person capsule compartments, onboard WiFi and a dining carriage (though apparently they’re working on the latter).
It’s the hygge plug
Which are only necessary because British houses are wired with a ring main. It’s a false economy.
Also, when it was created, most appliances were earthed. Nowadays, most things one plugs in are small electronic devices which don’t need an earth. Type G/BS1363 has no 2-pin variant, and even mandates a mechanical shutter to prevent a plug without an earth pin from being used. Which was great in 1947, but not so much now, when Europeans, Americans, Japanese, Australians and such have slender 2-pin plugs and economical sockets to put them in, while the Brits/Irish/HK/UAE are stuck with their enormous clownshoe of a plug.
Type G only exists because the British skimped on wiring after WW2 and needed to put a fuse in each plug for safety, hence the chonkiness.
and if you really don’t like your handle, you can make a new account and migrate your follows to it automatically
That or “i like pie”
One test used to diagnose schizophrenia is called the DAP test, or “draw a person” test. It involves asking the patient to draw a person; if the drawing is incoherent (body parts not connected correctly, too few or too many or in the wrong place, etc.) that can be symptomatic of schizophrenia. I was reminded of this by this image, which could probably serve as a diagnostic of some form of cognitive decline (i.e. if a patient responds to this positively, some critical faculty has deteriorated)
The United Airlines who, coincidentally, are planning to start showing personalised ads on seatback screens?
That may be harder with the boundary between them, the Republican Party and much of the judiciary being so porous. This designation relies largely on the MTGs of today not going to bat for an obscure Swedish far-right group.
Calling a schwebebahn a monorail is quality trolling.
