Steam deck is a top seller on steam when they release a new steam deck, and nothing much else has released recently.

It would be news if it wasn’t

Also, it’s not clear if Valve is just comparing Steam Deck sales against other hardware Valve sells or against game sales.

If its against other Valve hardware, the measurement of “top seller” is a joke.

…what isn’t clear about it, Steam top sellers list has always been total revenue of everything sold on Steam. Even F2P games with microtransactions are counted.

They are comparing the totality of the value something has been bought for. So a $60 game needs to sell 10 copies, when $600 piece of hardware just needs to sell one. That’s been the reason why Valve Index was nr 1 for so long - it was very expensive, with purchases comming from the enthusiast market. Same thing for the steam deck - not many people will buy it, but it will be worth a lot of AAA games.

What other metric would you use to measure “top sellers”, flat units sold? $10 indies and games on sale would probably dominate that list. Seems the most sense to base it off of revenue.

Yeah i don’t get it. People are underselling just how much that is. I can’t even buy one in my region, and i think there are many more. The number would be even higher if you could buy it worldwide like a game.

It’s not like they’re mutually exclusive. Seems to me like measuring by flat units sold is equally as useful as total value.

Units sold is really only useful if comparing similar products. You wouldn’t compare how many yachts are sold in a year vs how many toothpicks or sticks of gum, by the same logic it makes no sense to compare a $500 gaming console to a $2 indie game either. Steam sells a lot of different products, I mean how would you measure F2P games which are not even sold by unit in the first place? How about DLCs? Software licenses?

And I would argue the info is useless anyway. All the list does is give you rough idea on what’s making money on Steam, there are no specifics given. No one is using this data for anything serious.

It is a joke, Valve self proclaimed they sold their products in their website. We have zero evidence or 3rd parties to look into. They can lie and no one will know the truth.

I am actually happy if this pushes more developers to ditch DX in favour of Vulkan, high time if you ask me.

I doubt that will happen. DXVK and VKD3D are just too good these days, so even if a developer wants to make sure their game runs on the steamdeck they’ll probs just try to increase its proton compatibility

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Then it dropped globally down to 11th in the week for September 26, 2023 - October 3, 2023 and hovered around 11th - 15th place.

Now that Valve have discounted the LCD models and released the Steam Deck OLED though, this has caused a nice spike in sales for Valve with the Steam Deck jumping up to 4th place for the week November 7, 2023 - November 14, 2023 and now the global top seller once again as of the week for November 14, 2023 - November 21, 2023 and it’s still the top seller for the last week as well so it’s firmly back.

Valve will of course be happy with this, as they plan to continue supporting all models, and they clearly have plans for a Steam Deck 2 once the hardware becomes available that’s a big enough of a performance boost.

We don’t know how many Steam Decks have been sold but it is now in the “multiple millions” number.

When you look at Komodo who sell the Steam Deck across Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong they’re currently listing the Steam Deck OLED models as out of stock right now too - so clearly there’s healthy demand there as well.

Or you can go for the 256GB LCD model which is now cheaper, or just grab the excellent Steam Deck OLED in either 512GB or 1TB.

Same here, super frustrating and it seems we are not the only ones. There are a bunch of people who haven’t received their decks. F GLS, delivering goods with donkeys. It took them

Yes, it should be today at some point, I got an email notifying me that it is out for delivery at last. I can’t wait to get it and install the 2Tb SSD inside.
