I’m dog sitting a few times a week (same dog), and he loves chewing up cardboard. He doesn’t eat it or anything, just makes a huge mess. He has nylabones and similar chew toys, but he’s not very interested in them. He seems to prefer things he can rip to shreds easily. Any idea what sorts of toys would be a good alternative to cardboard for him to reduce the mess?

My youngest just enjoyed the destruction. Didn’t matter the toy, it had to be destroyed.

She’ll play with anything, though, so for me it was mostly just a matter of finding more durable toys. The Kong ball seems to be up to the challenge, and she loves it.

Maybe try giving him some ice cubes? Both of my dogs love them and it seems to satiate the pup’s need to destroy something.

Good shout with the ice cubes! I think he likes them! Obligatory dog tax included, that’s him being curious about ice cubes

      dog.

        Adorable! Glad he likes them.

Just be sure to watch and make sure he doesn’t carry them off and try to hide them. lol. My pup did that at first (not realizing ice cubes were ephemeral), and I’d find very tiny, very cold wet spots later in the day.
