The Open Source Cartridge Reader is a great project for backing up saves (very useful for replacing dying batteries) and dumping roms. It’s also great soldering practice. I chose to go the kit route from here since it was only slightly more expensive with the case than source everything yourself (no case kit: $125, with case: $145, source yourself: ~$134).

Please help me understand how you have a photo in thumbnail in retrogaming community but nothing but an Imgur link in this one. I’d really prefer it to look more like retrogaming’s post but I don’t know why there’s a difference. Thanks for the post.

Best guess, the retro gaming on was a single image. For console repair, I added multiple pictures to show some soldering.

Any idea how we can have both a thumbnail AND a rich post with soldering pics? (Commenting twice so you’re notified, not my normal practice). Thumbnails are eye catching and drive engagement, but if they come at the cost of fewer pics and a less rich post overall, it seems like something that should be tweaked in lemmy. I really don’t want to use third party hosting sites if it can be avoided — how sweet would it be to have both? I’d like to grow this community, and ideally pass off modding to others when the time comes.

I think the issue will resolve itself once lemmy.world allows for image uploads again. Then you can add images to the body of the post again without a third party site.
