With kbin and various Lemmy instances having multiples of the same magazine/sub, wouldn’t it be nice if we could bundle individual ones together to see them all consolidated?
For example: /askkbin, /asklemmy1 and /asklemmy2 bundled into /ask or whatever name I choose.
Kinda like reddits multireddits. Maybe with a selector where new threads get created when I post.

Federation makes that a challenge, but I do think having some addition to the protocol that allows like-minded or similar communities to group together and share material would go a long way towards people’s concerns on being on the “right” instance, and aid in cases where one instance disappears. Such grouping could be moderated and federated just like the instances are, so if one group only wants particular things shared or pulled they could control that too.

I have no idea what effect such a thing would have on the federated infrastructure.

I think we could have multireddits by using tags, no? We’d just need a magazines tags to automatically be applied to any content in it, and then I could just have my #tech feed, my #ask feed, and my #cycling+#bikes+#bicycles feed lol.

I think it would be good to look at cross-posting across multiple magazines/communities too while we’re here. It’s an adjacent problem here, and I feel like we can find a nice solution for both here.

As things are now, if we just amalgamate 6 different /tech communities, there’s going to be a lot of duplicate threads lol. If I want to post a news article to several places, it’d be nice to be able to just list them off and click post just once. Then in the multi-feeds, it’ll only be listed once please!

It seems like more work than it’s worth, but I wish there was a way to just automatically group any thread from your subscriptions that feature the exact same link into a super-thread. You open it up and it’s like a mini magazine, but only with all the posts featuring that shared link. Then you can just choose the one you prefer to engage with.
