It’s hot here and I want something cold to drink. If anyone is “obsessed” it’s Europeans constantly going on about “wacky Americans” wanting a nice cold drink…

Yeah it’s not that much different than sparkling water in Europe. It’s a thing people like and just because it’s popular doesn’t mean you have to do it.

Just ask for no ice. Just ask for still water. Simple as.

But if we do that, how are we supposed to whinge about our differences? This is the internet, damn it! I want to feel bad!

Have you all tried water with ice? It’s soooo much better than water without ice.

This is a weird regional thing. There’s no such obsession here, but we had friends from California visit, and they were telling us all about their fancy ice. Apparently all of their friends, and neighbors, are buying these fancy gourmet ice makers for 1000+ dollars. The ice machines perform all sorts of filtering on the water, and then make specially shaped cubes that allow the ice maker owner to brag about their fancy ice when company comes to visit. They live in a pretty pretentious area, so we weren’t very surprised by this new pretension.
