Fuck. I have a gas stove. And it’s only like 6 years old. I certainly can’t afford to replace it.

Did you consider that you’re actually a terrible person for buying a legally available good that’s superior to its competition?
Superior in what way? Compared to crappy old coil based stoves, maybe, but electric can easily outperform gas in terms of heat output. You can boil a pot of water in like half the time of a gas stove using induction, and cheaper non induction models are at least comparable.
I look forward to a fresh new round of backlash about this from angry conservatives looking for things to be mad/scared about. And no, I don’t mean being mad or scared about the actual science, but rather the scientists that dare tell them their findings.
Honestly, I fucking wish the Democrats would have the balls to pass laws to regulate things like this…
Is the anger about scientists publishing or about politicians regulating? I’m happy for scientists to publish this so people can make informed decisions, but I’m angry about politicians making those decisions for people, like the upcoming ban on gas stoves in new buildings where I live.
There’s something very satisfying about fire that makes it worth the increased pollution exposure, IMO. Currently I’m stuck in an apartment with an electric stove, but I used to have a house somewhere without gas mains, and I had an outdoor propane tank (which isn’t that cheap) only so that I could have a gas stove. I knew a guy who took the risk of having a small indoor propane tank (illegal and dangerous) for the same reason.

I get that for some who have to rely on a 120v might have a bad experience cooking on a poor electric stove, but having 230v outlets and double that for high power connections, my stove is plenty powerful enough.
I would prefer flame for some things, but not so much that I’d trust the general public to not blow shit up accidentally.

No, you shouldn’t replace your gas stove if it’s new or still has life in it unless you can afford to do so and you want to upgrade to induction which is better in nearly everyway.
Yes, we should regulate gas in homes such that no new homes have gas anything in them except for in the places where it’s absolutely necessary. Although I’m a fan of simply not allowing them on any new construction, I’m also okay with a carbon tax roughly equivalent to their lifetime emissions as a way for people who really want them to get them - I guess I believe choice is in this way is better than no choice as long as a premium price is attached.
This is fairly simple. Sensible people aren’t trying to take away gas for no reason, we’re trying to reduce the harm we cause to ourselves and our planet wherever possible especially when - again - is beneficial in nearly every measurable metric. That doesn’t mean banging down doors and ripping ovens out, it means insuring that when you have to replace your current equipment you do so with non-gas because it’s better for everyone and won’t happen as quickly as we need it to naturally because there is huge money in convincing people gas is good/necessary/manly/better despite the damage it causes to the climate. Thank your local oil company for that propaganda.
I feel strongly that if people want to keep their gas, let them. As long as there aren’t kids at home.
