Hell yes. Second best star wars games ever made after the Kotor games. Instant buy for me.
I don’t know about second best, but it’s in the top 5 for sure. The other three for me being the Rogue Squadron series, Galactic Battlegrounds and tie between the two Episode I games (Phantom Menace and Racer).
All excellent choices from the ones I know. I particularly love galactic battlegrounds (also you’re the first person I’ve met that’s ever heard of it!) And Episode 1: racer.
You seem to have good taste, so I’ll check out Rogue Squadron and Phantom Menace!
And obviously these are just my opinions, I can’t fault anyone else for what they prefer.
My personal overall fav is Kotor 2. It’s so good.
Heh yeah Galactic Battlegrounds is so unfairly underrated IMO. People who knew of it brushed it off saying it’s just a reskinned AoE - but there’s so much more to it. I fell in love with it all over again last year, after I discovered a couple of excellent mods: the first being Expanding Fronts, which brings new civilizations, units, maps, music and QoL improvements. The other being cnc-ddraw - which fixes graphics/compatibility/resolutions and does some excellent upscaling. The game is so much fun with this, been playing local multiplayer with my friends using ZeroTier and we have massive battles against bots, its amazing.

And yeah. So many people that I recommended it to thought it was just AoE 2 again. But as you say, it actually has a ton more complexity. And the map editor and storylines were pretty awesome too.
Two words: Republic Commando
From all I’ve seen, this is a very cool game, I’ve just never had the opportunity to play through it for myself other than a demo on the original Xbox.
I think it’s available on Steam. I’ll pick it up and give it a go!

I’m not even a Star Wars fan, but I spent a lot of time with the PS1 Phantom Menace game as a kid. Some of its levels (Naboo and Tatooine especially) felt surprisingly open world for a game of that era.
I’d put Jedi Survivor up there, despite the technical issues. Also no list of best Star Wars games is complete without Republic Commando.
Just wanna throw in an honorable mention for X-Wing Alliance although the entire X-Wing series is incredible if a little dated these days

Both games have been on steam for at least a few years now.
i still remember recieving the pc version of the og battlefront2 as a birthday gift.
i could not get it to run for weeks,
and i had to deactivate all sound to get it to work.it was downright uncanny to hear the sound, when i bought the steam version years later.
also the loading screen with the map zooming in in battlefront1 was the coolest shit i had ever seen
Is this literally just the original versions for PS5? I’ll probably stick with the OG PC versions and community servers
Unless they put the og bf1 maps into bf2 like that one pc mod does AND also implement splitscreen on the console versions, there will be no point in playing this. A pc version will only be worth playing if it can still load custom maps and only if the multi-player works ok with custom maps like the original which is a hard bar to reach considering even complicated custom maps with lots of hacks work well over lan.
I played the crap out of this as a kid and also as an adult. It’s one of the greatest games ever made. It has to at least be better than the original in every way or it’s blasphemy.
I wonder what the PC version will be like?
If it’s not the existing 2 PC games which have already been updated to remove GameSpy and add in modern online servers, then cool. If not I hope they make Battlefront 2’s menus controller friendly.
