Lemmy doesn’t do spoilers the same way that Reddit does. Sync appears to still be using the reddit style of spoilers, i.e. >!spoiler!<, however on the web-ui those are visible to users, and the spoilers that web users use in the editor which look like this:

::: spoiler description
spoiler goes here
:::

Aren’t hidden in Sync. Consider this a PSA for users of Sync that may want to avoid spoilers or avoid spoiling others. Personally, I’d like to see >!spoiler!< supported more widely on Lemmy, but in the meantime this should probably be addressed in Sync.

    Yeah, lemmy using the ! for communities kinda screws it up across the board. Some apps can’t seem to make it be recognized as a community tag, and it makes the spoiler markdown annoying as hell.

    I really wish they’d picked a less important marker for communities. ¢ is like, never used for anything and kinda looks like the c/ thing in a way lol.

    I wish Lemmy used Discord style spoiler tags. I don’t see why a spoiler needs a title and an expando. Just mask the text and reveal it when tapped. Discord uses ||spoiler here|| syntax. Much easier to remember and use than the reddit syntax and simpler than the Lemmy one.

    Honestly, the reddit syntax is so ugly and stupid it offends me. 😆
