This is a hot load of shit.

My household purchased a yearly subscription to Crave as it contained all the Star Trek content and a bunch of HBO shows that my wife likes.

Removing this content will just mean my Plex server will go brrr a little more. I’m slightly inconvenienced, and Paramount+ and Crave just lost another subscriber. Big brain move by these services.

If Paramount+ acquiring the rights to shows that you like ensures that you’ll never be a subscriber, I suspect that potential was never really there…

They were getting royalties from @PerogiBoy through his content provider. Not anymore. It’s not rocket surgery. Brain science. You get it.

Option A had everything in one place (they weren’t just after Trek) for a single cost. Splitting platforms and increasing user costs while decreasing user convenience has now cost them income.

The article is accurately reporting what Paramount themselves have said.

Paramount+ announced today that the service is now Canada’s streaming home of the iconic Star Trek catalogue featuring over 800 episodes of binge-worthy episodes and 12 feature films. Kicking off today, Season 1 and the current season to date of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is available to stream on Paramount+, and the library will continue to build throughout the month with Star Trek: The Next Generation available on August 8, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine on August 15, and more. These iconic series join Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, already streaming on the service.

You seem to be complaining that Picard wasn’t there several months ago, but no one is claiming it was, and I don’t think anyone was claiming it was back then, either.

So… Paramount+ is just one of the homes for Star Trek then.

You seem to misunderstand that, as well - all it means is that CTV Sci-Fi will continue airing the new series on TV. They will all stream on Paramount+.

Edit: Your bitchy cunt response really proves my point.

Getting this heated over a discussion about how a streaming service is inconvenient is pretty over the top. I’m annoyed with Trek being removed from Crave as well, and I’m also annoyed with Paramount for a whole host of reasons right now, so I empathize, but no need to react like this.

Going to need you to edit your comment.

It’s already bullshit that Crave and Bell own the rights to a shit ton of stuff up here through being the main media conglomerate. I got Crave through Cogeco as a bonus to our cable package and honestly, anything that’s worth watching on the service is likely either an HBO original or something that’s worth permanently downloading.

I actually can’t even use the Crave browser client properly on most of my machines due to adblocking. In order to watch SNW last week I had to install Crave as an Android app through Windows Subsystem for Android in order to actually gain access to the library. At that point it’s just worth it for me to straight up torrent it because it’s just simply not worth the hassle on top of shifting media rights.

You certainly tried a lot harder than I did. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if HBO allowed us to buy just HBO I’d have paid up.

So, like, Prodigy? No? Then fail. If I’m gonna pay for a streaming service, just for Star Trek, which I am entirely willing to do, but it darn well better have all of it. Take my money, but earn it!

Glad we’ve kept the CTV Sci-fi Channel on Bell Fibe even if I have to wait until 9 pm Thursdays for new episodes.

Between Trek and the Syfy originals, it’s still one of the main places for new television for us.

Fuck this Ferengi “we need all the profit” nonsense, especially given what Star Trek is about. I’m not paying for another service. The only thing these companies are doing is making piracy a more appealing option again.
