The concept of federated social media is a much more left-leaning approach compared to the mainstream likes of Twitter, Reddit, etc. The people that chose to use Lemmy are much more likely to have left leaning views on other topics as well, skewing the whole platform left.
The left certainly isn’t a monolith. Just as some of these views may be standard socialist / communist viewpoints, a left-leaning platform is also more likely to have a disproportionate number of Russian and Chinese apologists.
It’s like Harry Styles complaining about all the gay romance movies having too much gay sex. What did you think they were gonna have, slam poetry sessions and a Glee club?
I used to be more neutral towards China but the more I read the more I envy how their government is doing. Besides saving possibly millions of lives through their COVID policy, they’ve been kicking ass recently:
