She was sitting in her car before dawn last month when a uniformed police officer in Las Cruces, New Mexico, accused her and her passenger of trespassing, then shouted commands laced with the F-word at her and threatened to arrest her, “tase” her and make her life “a living hell” if she didn’t comply with his plan to investigate.

“I have 190 officers that are still out in the community working to make Las Cruces safer. … I wish I could have a news conference for every heroic, compassionate or selfless act that those officers perform."

You’re the fuckin’ chief of police, Jeremy. Nobody’s stopping you.

Even if he had such news conferences - OK?

Is there a number of good deeds that makes up for killing a woman needlessly?

I really hate these sorts of responses from police. You can’t go, “Well, we rescued ten kittens out of trees yesterday, and 3 of my guys actually let a black motorist off with a warning, and you know how hard that can be to get them to do, plus they were playing basketball with some kids down near the skatepark where they didn’t throw their authority around a single time, and they didn’t even harass the skaters as they left, so why is everyone so mad that we shot this one woman to death over an altercation that should never have taken place to begin with?”

Agreed, it’s a disgusting, callous response. This cop shot an unarmed woman in the neck and watched her bleed to death while they waited for the ambulance to arrive. Who gives a fuck about the so-called “good cops”? This piece of shit murdered this woman.

It’s Las Cruces. Safe to assume many other officers on the force are dirty for various reasons. I don’t blame the police chief for inheriting the situation, but it’s his responsibility to try to fix it. Not that he cares.
