China is getting gud at EVs but that’s a bullshit marketing number if I’ve ever seen one.

Gasoline and batteries have a finite amount of energy storage and unless they’re lugging around a 20 gallon tank and a 300mi battery they’re full of shit

Is not required to read the linked article but on the second paragraph it says :

BYD’s fifth-generation plug-in hybrid technology which promises a combined range of up to 1,300 miles.

So, full tank of gas plus electric assist total range. Plug in hybrids have both electric and gas engines, the MPG they get is crazy as the electric gets the heavy lift and gas just runs at low rpms to maintain speed

That’s what I’m saying, a 10gal tank of gas will get you 500mi in most mid size hybrids of that type, a little further in something like a prius. You’d need a full size battery (full ev type capacity) plus another 10gal to get to that range which is an insane amount of weight to carry around.

      It has a 65L (14.3 gallon) tank with a 10kwh battery.

Apparently the whole system is just efficient enough to accomplish the numbers – some Chinese youtubers managed to juice 2500km (about 1500mi) out of that car in a real world test, even if you discounted it by 20% that’s still an amazing 2000km (1250 mi).
