Unfortunately, this is really common in soil science news articles. They are written so a 5th grader can read them.
The amount of cussing I did with every mention of the word ‘dirt’
Finally, if it’s soil microbes, they are part of the soil biome, and thus it’s not technically wrong.
I definitely got the impression from the title that somehow someone had come up with a way to turn literal dirt into energy.
Like the mineral component?
Yeah, that’d be hard. Unsustainable too. Just look at sand mining for an example of how bad that would be.
