Discord just banned most switch shop/drive related discords RIP (but this shouldn’t impact using any of the services). If you use a tinfoil shop, check the message that loads when you connect in Tinfoil for information/alternatives.

Looks like communities are now moving to guilded.gg, however for such communities, I think that Matrix or something similar should be utilized.

At least there is still a way to stay up to date of what’s happening, however guilded.gg is clunky at best.
I agree, Sourceshop isn’t very reliable right now from what I hear due to the extremely restrictive GDrive quotas. LiberaShop doesn’t seem to have these issues.

Given the file sizes in theory the way to handle the storage issue would be to use torrents, but I’m not sure how feasible is that on the Switch hardware/software itself. As for the communities, one would expect something like a Discourse forum or a Matrix chat, and if they want to work on futureproofing the ROM storage something like IPFS or at least a Nextcloud-like object storage.
